Jackson Li (Jiansheng)
His work is spontaneous, intuitive and impulsive; a modern-day interpretation of the traditional forms. His horses, with the thickly applied glaze, are at odds with the beauty of the classical Chinese ceramics, and bear witness to the current developments in Jingdezhen, China. He experiences and uses clay as tactile earth. He refines it through the heat of the fire to become a timeless quotation of romantic longing, evoking memories of the expressive poetry of the Tang dynasty, a climax of the Chinese civilisation in the seventh and eighth centuries.
