This box contains six cups created from Chinese porcelain from Jingdezhen, China. These cups have been designed by six Dutch artists represented by Terra Delft Gallery. They were designed during an artist-in-residence six-week stay in the ceramics center Sanbao, near Jingdezhen. Though the designs are contemporary, the use of celadon glaze is a direct reference to the rich cultural history of the world-famous Chinese porcelain which also frequently features this glaze. The cups are suitable for daily use and are diswasher-safe. The set is exclusively offered by Terra Delft Gallery.
With the purchase of this Chinese box and its contents, you support the cultural exchange between the Netherlands (Terra Delft Gallery) and China (Jingdezhen / Sanbao), such as the one which took place in the summer of 2012.
The participating artists are: Mieke de Groot, Simone Haak, Peter Keizer, Olav Slingerland, Mariëtte van der Ven en Henk Wolvers
Jingdezhen has been a city of porcelain for more than a thousand years, and since 2010 has been a sister city of Delft, city of ceramics. The porcelain which Europeans first encountered approximately 400 years ago came from Jingdezhen. The world-famous Delft Blue pottery is a direct descendant of this high-quality porcelain.
